I was born
in Winnipeg, MB. I knew I was going to be an actor since I was
4 but it wasn't until I was 9 that I realized that not everyone
wanted the same thing. This prompted me to take my first acting
class when I was 10. It was a ten-week course for "youth" (8-12)
offered by a nearby school. It was here I realized this was really
what I wanted to do.
My next endeavour
into the acting world didn't come until I was 12. It was a play
for children (and the first play I did) called "The Tale of the
Red Dragon" for Actor's Showcase (now called Manitoba Theatre
for Young People) in which I played various bits (most memorably:
half of a 'river'). I then spent two years taking classes at Actor's
Showcase.
After spending
the next summer doing shows with Fantasy Theatre for Children,
I performed and studied there for the next two years. Getting
the chance to do a wide variety of parts and styles fostered my
ability and affection for character roles.
It was the
following year that Manitoba Theatre Centre began an acting program
for young people called Manitoba Youth Theatre. This is where
I studied for the next two years, (are you sensing a two-year
theme? - unintentional, I assure you) getting the chance to learn
from some of Winnipeg's most prominent actors. It was also in
the middle of these two years that I performed in my first professional
show. It was "Sweet Charity" at Rainbow Stage.
In my last
year at Manitoba Youth Theatre, I auditioned for and was accepted
into Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto where, at 17, I was the
youngest student ever to be admitted into the acting program.
Moving to Toronto and going to Ryerson, I really began to understand
acting and the business. After two years, I left Ryerson to embark
upon what would be the beginning of why you are now visiting this
website - AN ACTING CAREER!
Welcome.
